Post-traumatic Erosions of Articular Cartilage.

چکیده
Erosions of articular cartilage are often seen in the knee joint in association with certain internal derangements such as meniscus tears or after recurrent subluxation of the patella (Helfet 1959, Smillie 1962). Also a number of studies have appeared on the pathology of articular cartilage after injury, both in man (Landells 1957) and in experimental animals (Barnett 1956. Tallqvist 1962, Meachim 1963). However, attention does not appear to have been directed towards the clinical diagnosis and management of isolated articular cartilage erosions after injury, with the exception of several papers bearing on the patella (BUdinger 1908; Wiles, Andrews and Devas 1956). The present paper deals with sixteen patients with articular cartilage injuries in various joints (Table I). These lesions predispose to osteoarthritis in the affected joints, although the

Effect of low-level laser therapy on osteoarthropathy in rabbit.
The aim of this study was to determine whether low-level laser therapy (LLLT) aided the recovery of damaged articular cartilage in joints with artificially induced osteoarthropathy (OA). OA was induced by injecting hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into the articular spaces of both knees in rabbits, twice a week for 4 weeks. The induction of OA and the effect of LLLT were evaluated by biochemical, radio...
متن کاملPrevention Of Post-traumatic Osteoarthritis By Administration Of Intra-articular Anti-vegf Antibody (bevacizumab)
Introduction: Angiogenesis is an important factor in the development of osteoarthritis (OA). Angiogenesis also results in innervation of the articular cartilage (1), which may provide the possible source of pain in OA patients. We reported previously that intravenous administration of bevacizumab, a humanized monoclonal anti-VEGF antibody, contributes to the repair of articular cartilage in an ...
متن کاملArticular cartilage defects of the knee: correlation between magnetic resonance imaging and gross pathology.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the knee articular cartilage is possible owing to the contrast provided by different signal intensities of adjacent menisci and subchondral bone. The objective of this study was to determine the accuracy of MRI in quantitatively detecting thinning and focal defects of articular cartilage in vivo. High resolution MRI was performed followed by dissection of the...
متن کاملThe Roles of Mechanical Stresses in the Pathogenesis of Osteoarthritis
Excessive joint surface loadings, either single (acute impact event) or repetitive (cumulative contact stress), can cause the clinical syndrome of osteoarthritis (OA). Despite advances in treatment of injured joints, the risk of OA following joint injuries has not decreased in the last 50 years. Cumulative excessive articular surface contact stress that leads to OA results from post-traumatic j...
متن کاملFunctional evaluation of patients treated with osteochondral allograft transplantation for post-traumatic ankle arthrosis
Introduction Osteochondral allograft ankle transplantation [1] seems to provide a very innovative and viable alternative for the treatment of post-traumatic ankle arthritis in selected individuals, mostly in young and active patients. The rationale behind this surgical procedure is essentially the transplantation of intact organ as hyaline articular cartilage, into a diseased or damaged area of...
